The Alpha course began in London at Holy Trinity Church, Brompton. It is a practical introduction to the Christian faith for everyone including non churchgoers. The course is now being run by thousands of christian churches, in Britain and across the world.
At St. Helens we have been running Alpha for a number of years with great success.
What happens at Alpha?
Each evening begins with supper, followed by a 40 minute talk, after which there is time for coffee and discussion in small groups. The evening ends at about 9.45pm.
The talks are based on the book Questions of Life by Nicky Gumbel.
There is one full day, a Saturday, which we call ‘The Holy Spirit Day’, which includes three talks on the person and work of the Holy Spirit and is an important part of the course.
The other talks are …
    * Who is Jesus?
    * Why did Jesus die?
    * How can I be sure of my Faith?
    * Why and How should I read the Bible?
    * Why and How do I pray?
    * How does God guide us?
    * How can I resist evil?
    * Why and How should we tell others?
    * Does God heal today?
    * What about the Church?
    * How Can I Make the Most of the Rest of my Life?
